One Journal Out of Many
Mosaic is published at the start of each fall and spring semester with the efforts of students from Ege University’s American Culture and Literature Department. It is an online journal that is available worldwide.
We chose John Sloan’s McSorley’s Bar for the cover of Mosaic’s first issue because it captures the familiar essence of our journal’s foundation and our efforts to reveal the spark and beauty of the unseen.
A modernist with an eye for the poetic of the everyday life, Sloan portrayed the motion of urban life, the invisible burden of routine, and the hushed conversations between strangers who return the same corner night after night. Mosaic, in many ways, is pulled to the same rhythm—shared feelings, the flicker of thought, and the beauty found in the mundane. The people at McSorley’s Bar lean in to one other, buried in their own moments of discussion. We hope that our pages provide a platform for reflection, dialogue, and connection.
That is the ethos of Mosaic—a journal designed not only to observe, but also participate in the world it depicts.
